Glass Block Window - Two Layers of Siding
We are replacing a 2'x3' wood window in a shower with glass block. The window, including frame has already been removed by the GC, whom I subsequently terminated (for reasons beyond the scope of this post).
Here are my questions:
(1) The house has two layers of siding: masonite lap siding covered by vinyl siding. How would the new glass block window come out to the vinyl j-channel? Would the glass extend over the masonite? If so, how would it be secured/ supported? We are using the thin (3") blocks.
(2) Do I need to apply flashing (e.g., Protectowrap) around the rough-in frame PRIOR to laying the glass block? A glass block installation company said they just apply mortar, no flashing.
the glass block sits over the framing, so it does not meet the siding, trim does that
yes, some sort of water protection must be installed to the rough framing, make sure it laps over any building paper, water that gets in must find a safe way out
