General contractors license.

I was wondering if anyone has any info on how to obtain a general contractors license in Massachusetts. I have built a ton of things including 2 sheds, a garage, and have done roofing, rough framing, siding, windows etc. I have found that my work is better than most "professionals' and would like to obtain and general contractors license and starts buying land and building houses. Any info would help. Thanks

Hi,

Several times a year there is a class: 1 night a week for (I think) 6 weeks.
When I took it, it was $350.00 + cost of MASS Building Codes book.
VERY, VERY, VERY good and necessary class to help you pass the test.

However, you have to have documented proof that you have worked in some area of the building/ construction trade fulltime for a minimum of (I think it was) 3 years.

If you feel that you met that last requirement, post a confirmation and I will PM you with more information.

thats too bad unfortunatly i dont have the 3 years on record. Mostly what I have done is for my own house or family members. I wish there was a way around this.

No, 3 years full time, they will not even consider part time. Atlantic is correct about the prep course, it is a must.
