Just a general question.... how much help can I expect to get from the kind folks of this forum?

I want to build a rectangular gazebo onto an existing deck. I have no blueprints to work from and I have no experience building anything more complicated than a small plywood hut for a feral cat colony. I am a quick study, but I don't know the construction lingo. I will definitely ask some really dumb questions.

I don't want to over stay my welcome here... so that's why I am asking... Is it possible for a rookie like me to get enough "how to" advise here for such a project?

You need to get a handle on structure. Look up Pergola construction or plans. You're basically building a pergola with a roof. You Tube has videos that will give you a few visuals to get you started.
