Gas Fireplace Problem

I'm not sure if this is the right area for my question. I just moved into a house. The gas fireplace leaves a trail of soot up the front of the fascia and mantle. The gas fire seems to be very close to the front edge of the fireplace. The flue is open. This happens every time I use the fireplace, even at a very low flow rate. What can I do? (Majestic insert fireplace.)

Thanks in advance! Sandra

Gas Fireplace Problem

I'd have a professional look at this. Chimney restrictions, incorrect gas volume, incorrect installation could all contribute to your problem.
I wouldn't use this device until it's been fixed.

Gas Fireplace Problem

Call a pro, if you're getting soot in your home, you're getting carbon monoxide too.

Gas Fireplace Problem

Thanks so much for the responses. I've been worried about whether this was a carbon monoxide risk. I also smell the gas when the fire is lit and was wondering if I was just being paranoid. I will definitely stop using it until I have it looked at.
