garage/terrace/i-beam

i have a garage/terrace set up in an old house. needed some structural work and so an I beam was run across the middle of this for support -- architect , engineer the whole thing done right.
Now, i want to put a ceiling in and am not sure how to attach the treated lumber ceiling joists into the steel beam (perpendicularly). this is a 600 sq foot space and i do not want to put any more vertical support , walls, etc.
any help?

There are usually many alternatives, you may wish to contact the engineer/architect who did the original design for assistance, since they apparently did an acceptable design job in the first place.

One method would be to drill a few holes and thru bolt a pair of 2x on either side of the web of the I beam. Then use metal joist hangers to attach the joists.
