garage remodel footings

We have just purchased a forclosure and wanta build in our attached garage. We want to raise the floor to the same grade as the rest of the house. My question is do i need to put a footing where the garage door was?

You shouldn't have too because the footings always go there at least where I'm from.

You should check with your local Building Department. They may require all foundations to be below the frost depth.
Generally the garage footings are shallower than the house's, as per use. There may be egress needs (bedroom), light (window) and ventilation requirements as well. The fill-in at the garage may need special shear framing, especially if an older garage. Most City/County B.D.'s have a web site to check on such, or just give them a quick call to be safe. I encourage a permit as the next buyer will look for that on your house's personal County record. Your Homeowners Insurance is more likely to cover a claim, if permitted also.
Be safe, G
