This, I'm sure, will be my first of many questions, and is my first post. I plan to build a garage. I'm retired electrician/ carpenter, so do have construction experience. However I've never had much concrete experience. Where can I find info on forming/ pouring/finishing the foundation and garage floor? footers? thickness of floor? etc. The plans are for a 24ft by 24ft garage with a loft upstairs. I live in Texas 40 miles nw of Houston, if the ground type is an issue. Is this something I can attempt to do myself? Yes money is an issue, being on a fixed income. Any ideas on how much it would cost to have this done? Thanks in advance.
The hardest part of the floor will be finishing the concrete. You'll need some strong backs, rubber boots and straight 2 x 4's. Google 'concrete finishing' and see what you get. A 24 x 24 x 4" slab will take about 7 1/2 yards of concrete. Around here the ready-mix alone will cost about $700. What will you park in the garage?
