garage door won't go down

We just installed a new garage door opener on a new garage door. When the door closes the rail bends up and the door stops and goes back up. We adjusted the garage door opener several times. Is it because the door is too tight or is the garage door opener?

Sounds like you need to adjust the door tract.

Does the door bind when you disconnect the opener?

it does not bind....it's a little tough to pull down about half way but doesn't bind. If I help the garage door down by pulling on it, it will close.

Kela,
if the opener rail is bending when the door closes at the bottom, the down limit on the opener is set to travel too far. Back it off some until the door stops just short of the concrete. Then increase the down travel just a little at a time until the door touches and starts to compress the rubber seal on the bottom. The opener rail should just tense up a little bit. What kind of opener did you install? Also, what kind of door is it attached too? You should be able to run the door up and down by hand without much effort. If you really have to push one way or lift very hard, door needs to be tuned up. Springs adjusted, rollers should spin freely, etc.

I'm thinking, if the rails are twisting, the detection device may be shifting? falsely reading as obstruction, going back up automatically

my vote's track alignment 'fore anything else,,, the old rollers & 'tract' had gotten used to each other in their old age torsion spring across the door's top OR old-style spring either side of the ceiling ? betting old-style as torsion springs aren't for newbies,,, don't ask me how i know this - i just know those springs are just to help the opener OR your arms/back

if you hear it from a guy in the apron store, be VERY suspicious the mtl/method will work,,, when it time to build something together, they won't answer phones NOR help

Disconnect the operator from the door and adjust the door until it works smoothly. It should open and close with one hand and stay down when released. What type of spring is being used, torsion or extension? The door needs to glide effortlessly without the opener before you can re-attach it.
