Garage door "thump" after it closes

Whenever I close the garage door (using the garage door opener) and it closes completely, then there's a thump noise about a second or two afterwards. Any idea what would cause this? It does it every time now. It started about a week ago.

I'll have to ask this: When you close the garage door, and you state that it closes "completely", do you watch the bottom of the garage door to see if it maybe lowers just a wee bit when you hear this "thump"? I'm wondering if the internal "down" setting of the garage door opener/closer is not set just right. The door may be reaching it's "down" position and the closer is shutting off, but the actual door is not all the way down and gravity takes over and the door lowers just that little bit causing this "thump" sound as it closes completely. Watch it closely and let us know. David

Thanks for your response. But it seems, for some reason, to have fixed itself. Maybe it was happening right as the cold weather moved in for the season? I don't know, but it doesn't seem to be causing anymore problem. I'll have to make a note to watch it next year at this time.

Or perhaps the opposite of what Thurman suggested. The bottom of the door stops on the concrete, and a second later, the mechanism stops moving ( possibly excessive play in the mechanism ). I saw this condition eventually fatigue and break the pull mounting bracket on a door once.
