Garage door framing

ekimdoog Newbie   Join Date: Jul 2011 Posts: 2	Garage door framing I'm putting up a new garage. (myself?) Cement is done, 32 x 32 w/12" curb wall all around. (except doorways) Question: garage door openings were left at 9'6", I expected 9'3".... Any suggestions how to frame? just double the jamb on each side? Thanks, Mike

tcleve4911 old guy contractor     Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Maine on Little Sebago Posts: 857	Garage door framing The 3" difference is usually allowed to have the last framing members go all the way down to the slab so the bottom of your jambs have something to fasten to. 1-1/2" on each side = the 3" I like to use pressure treated 2x since it will be end grain sitting in a potentially wet area.

firehawkmph Member     Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: Near Cleveland, Ohio Posts: 1,322	Garage door framing In addition to what the others said, the rough opening for your overhead door should end up being the size of the door itself. For example 9'wide by 7' high door should have a rough opening of 9' x 7'. Once you put your finish jambs in and the weatherstrips, you'll have an inch+ overlap onto the door. Mike Hawkins
