Garage Door Finish opening

I've been asked to help someone change the garage door from a slider to and overhead door. A company will come and install the overhead door, I just need to take the old door, track, etc out and frame the opening for the new overhead door.

I've done some construction and remodeling jobs before, but it's been a few years ago. I'm trying to find out how to figure the cost per hour to do this job. Job location is in Kansas.

Thanks for your help
Joel

Joe,
You just have to figure out if it's going to take you a day, day and a half, etc., and then figure out how much you want to make per hour. Hard to say how long it will take without looking at it. Just make sure to frame the rough opening to the actual door size, for example 16' x 7' door, rough opening should be 16' x 7'. Then when you add your finish jambs, and the garage door installer adds his weatherstops, they will both overlap the door.

Mike,

I just started this DIY site tonight after google search to help answer some construction questions I have. Glad I found this site!

Thanks for your input and suggestions! I don't even know the going rate for cost per hour in this area. I know what I'm worth! Ha. I don't have to do a quote or bid for this job, I just want to treat them right and do myself justice with the prices.

Welcome Joel,
if the wall you are reframing is halfway plumb to start with, you shouldn't have any problem.
