Garage Concrete Slab...HELP?

We are buying a house with a garage. The concrete slab it is sitting on is cracked (would guess about 2" difference in height in spots).

I hope to make the garage a fishroom...housing many aquariums.

The garage sits on the foundation.

What is an ideal way to approach this situation?

I was wondering if I could just pour some concrete on top of cracked concrete?

Jackhammer instead, and apply to inside edge of old concrete?

Trying to lift garage, and jackhammer it all out...and repour?

Just build a new garage, and tear down the old one?

I would guess the garage is aged, but still has structural merit.

I'm just looking at something cheap and effective.

Any information would be appreciated.

See if I understand what you have... Your garage walls are built ontop of foundation walls and the floor is poured inside these foundation walls? If that's the case, then I would jackhammer out the old floor and prep the grade for a new floor.
Your floor probably failed due to settling of what's under the concrete, the backfilling when it was built. In cold climates, if the overhead door is left open for long periods of time, the floor can freeze causing heeving(sp) and bust it up.

I now live in Florida where the weather is constant and we don't have much concrete or asphault cracking. I didn't realize how bad the cold can be on these surfaces until I went back up north. Good suggestion to keep your garage closed for the northerners...
