Gap behind brick moulding around new door

I am looking for suggestions. I added a back door to my basement. The lower half of the wall is block. There is a gap of 1/2"-3/4" between the brick moulding and the face of the block. What would be a good way to fill the gap, keep in mind the exterior surface of the block is a decorative uneven surface rather than flat.

I would have leveled the area before the door went in and added a wood piece to continue the upper plane down to the floor.
Now you're limited to filling in the area with a 1/2" piece of wood and filling the gap with backing rod and caulk.

The issue is that the boarding against the upper framework is not flush with te block, the house was just built that way. So it came to a few decisions of practicality, either way there was going to be something to have to fix after, this was the lesser of evils.
