Gable vents
We're building a center hall colonial in NJ, the front of which is brick. I just noticed that the builder forgot to put the front gable vent, located in the highest point of the attic.
The roof does have ridge and soffitt vents, and I will make sure that there are gable vents on either side of the house.
1. Is it still necessary to have the front gable vent?
2. If so, how is the best way to cut the hole in the newly-installed brick front? I don' want them banging away w/ a sledgehammer and possibly weakening the mortar elsewhere in the brick!

Gable vents are the least efficient vent types. If the ridgeand soffit vents are the correct size, that is all you need.
I would put in a power attic fan if you want more attic ventilation.
