But back to the vapor barrier - it scares me a bit. My basement stays bone dry. I'm fearing that a vapor barrier might then trap moisture behind it where mold would grow. If I don't use one and let it all sort of breathe - what's wrong with that?
Mold needs food to grow. If you put drywall with a paper backing on the concrete, then mold could grow on the paper.
If the walls are clean and you put a plastic or foam vapor barrier up, then there's nothing for the mold to grow on. You might get water, but you won't get mold.
I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Here in South Carolina our weather is a lot like Atlanta. The basement is dry and mold free, and I don't want to mess that up!
