Front Porch Extension
I could sure use some help with a porch project.
We have a long and narrow front concrete porch with a stone column at each end.
I would like to increase the depth of it so that I can navigate with my power chair.
I have come up with an idea, but I don't know if it will look right.
We are thinking of extending the porch past the stone columns and putting railing around the porch.
Oh, due to a large crack across the depth of the concrete porch, We need to completely cover the porch.
It would be cost prohibative to tear it out and rebuild.
I want to cover the concrete by building a wood porch and extending it so that it will have depth.
I also intended to place railing around the porch.
As you can see, I NEED ADVICE AND HELP .
I'm including a picture of one that is very simular to what I mean. You can see where the porch extends
beyond the wood columns.
What's your question?
front porch extension
I would like to know if it would look alright for our house. I don't want our porch to look like an obvious add-on.
Download Google SketchUp (it's free) and spend a couple of weeks learning to use it. You can make all sorts of "What if" drawings with that neat program.
Anything can be done if you have enough money.
Really need someone on site to look at what you have now to see what's the best way of doing it.
Be nice to have a picture of your porch not someone elses.
If your is like that one then the old roof would have to go and a new one built. With that low a sloped roof you would be better off with a metal roof to prevent it from leaking.
This is our house BEFORE painting it yellow with white trim. We had torn out all of the old landscaping to make room for the porch extension,so ignore the clutter.
The porch will be extended past the roof line that is why I was wondering how the finished porch would look.
Would look far better to also extend the roof out.
What's the plan for the floor?
Not going to be able to use composite because it's to close to the ground unless you use the newer PVC coated. It molds up with not enough air flow under it.
Thanks, Joe. Wish we could afford that, but budget won't allow it.
We want to raise the porch to the level of the door threshold.
Not being a carpenter, I have no idea on how to do it.
I know that we have to deal the the cracked cement. During certain times of the year, the porch will bow at the point of the crack.
Will need to find out how to correct that problem before building the extension.
