Freeing a marble slab from cement bed

I'm removing an old fireplace pedestal built in 1951. There is a large slab of marble, about 5 foot by 2 foot, laid in a bed of what seems like cement. I can get the end of a chisel bit on the rotary hammer under the edges, but can't get the slab free without chipping it.

The marble is in nice shape and I'd like to reuse it. Anyone know any tricks to try to get this slab free?

That's a tricky one. Hit and miss whether you can get it loose without breaking it. Gently work a small chisel around all edges. Try to chip out cement without getting the marble. Good Luck!!!

The only way you'll get this off in one piece is by breaking the seal with the mortar under it. I don't know if you can use a reciprocating saw blade for this. I've seen blades for jigsaws that are used for masonary, but never a sawzall blade.
Localized pressure at the edges will break the stone.

if you can do this w/it being placed in mortar originally w/o breaking it, you'll walk on water easily
