Framing nail gun is blowing holes in my fence

I rented a Framing nail gun to make hanging my fence boards easier. Now my problem is that the nail gun seems too powerful, Its making large holes in my fence around the nail heads. I've brought the psi down to 25, and it helps a little, but there is still a little damage around the nail. But when the psi is low the next nail takes two trigger pulls to come out. Which in turn adds more damage.

Any suggestions?

Oh, am I supposed to take the tape off the nails before loading the gun?

Thanks!

the air pressure needs to go up to around 90 PSI for the gun to work properly.
some guns have a depth adjustment on the tip to set the nail head properly.

When the pressure is that high the nail sets too deeply and the gun I rented has no adjustments. I'm going back to good old elbow grease.

Thanks for the reply.

The compressor will have a pressure setting that is adjustable. Adjust it.
If you can't fnd the adjustment, post the make and model number of the unit and we'll help you find it.

framing gun is not the best for finish work, you may be able to get a rubber no mar tip for it which should help,i would use a coil siding gun such as a makita an611
