floor joists


i am putting in a 2nd story room above the garage, what size should the joist be & what centers should they be at, the total span is 30ft with a header across at 13 ft from one side so the span is 13.2ft & 16.8ft that meet at the header. thanks for any help, the brit

How bouncy do you want this floor at what live & dead load?
L/180, L/360?

floor joists


Thanks for the reply, i put in the floor above the house living space, 7 that was 2x8's. not sure of the support under (supporting walls etc.). floor i put in 3/4 ply, seems to be firm with no bounce. but this has 2x6 with 3ft spacing. i Put in the header, 8X12x22 with 4x4 supports 5ft apart.
