Flat roof T G I span question.

We are getting ready to build a shop, our span will be 40 ft, there will be no extra weight on the roof, just plywood and blader roofong materials. My question is, what size T G I will I need. 951 695-5547 Steve

Knowing nothing about the project I will assume that the width is only 2' (2 feet) thereby negating the need for a 40' span. Now the span is only 2 feet and you can now get away with 2x4 on 16" centers.

You can send me check for my design care of this website.

Andy.

you region, along with roof pitch are required for such info..

your best bet contact a local contractor or the engineer at a lumberyard who designs floor and roof packages

Refer to a truss-floor manufacture. They take the room details into account and decide for you. That's why they call it engineered floor systems. If nobody cared, 16" TJI 16" o/c. Especially in a very wintry climate, which probably isn't the case as you chose a flat roof.

This is not the place to ask what you would use for a 40' span. This is a DIY'er forum. What you want is not for a Diy'er. Higher a professional.

You guys are wasting your breath. The arrogant SOB left his phone number because he won't bother checking back. He expects you to call him with the information he demands...what ever that might be.

....and if anyone cares, area code 951 put him in the hills near LA. Were he will be hiring fresh across the border illegals to do the work you specked for free, for next to nothing.

I'm not on anybody's side. Just wondering what the op is doing to deserve such negativity.

It was leaving the phone number that set me off for reasons I expressed, but coming to a DIY forum and asking for free engineering on a commercial building and giving inadequate details didn't help either.
