fixing a porch post in concrete
I have a wooden porch post that goes into the corner of the cement landing. The corner of the concreted chip off a long time ago, exposing the wood post that was in the concrete previously. Right now i don't have money to fix this the right way, I just to prevent further damage to the exposed wood that is slowly rotting on the corner. I was thinking about getting some kind of cauk to fill op the cracks in wood so that it won't deteriorate anymore. What product would be good for this? Is there any dangers during the winter with water gettign inside the post and freezing? thanks

I gather the wooden post embedded in the concrete is rotten near the concrete line. The least costly way to improve the situation is to purchase some epoxy wood strengthener for rotten wood, sold under various tradenames like Get Rot. Can be purchased at any big box store. Apply directly to the wood using a brush. Use gloves, very nasty on the hands. This is not a permanent fix, but should get you by a few more years perhaps.
