Fireproof Insulation

I got a good deal on a wood burning fireplace insert from a buddy and want to use it as a ventless gas fireplace. The insert will not be placed in a fireplace but will be used in a cabinet style fireplace. The insert I have is double walled with a blower. I am thinking if I use fireproof insulation wrapped around the insert and close off the flue opening it should work just like one of the freestanding enclosures without risk burning our house down. Any one have any suggestions as to where I can buy fireproof insulation or will regular wall insulation without the paper backing work and do you think this will work.

Fireproof Insulation

Fiberglass is not very good when looking for a "fireproof" insulation. It melts and loses all insulating value at a suprisingly low temperature.

what kind of clearance is required for the model you have? Ventless is not allowed in most areas, but direct vent is permitted.
