fireplace brick still warm

after 12 hours with no ashes left in the hearth, the brick is still warm. I've had the flu open as well as the front opening. Here are some pictures of the fireplace looking into the hearth and up the chimney. I had a hot 5 hour fire Friday night but not an extreme flame . We bought the house from a owner that whom had dementia so no history is available. When i tap on the bricks it is solid and does not sound hollow. The right side does not share the left side exhaust.

New home to you? Before any fire was ever started a sweep should have been called in to cleaned and inspect.
Brick holds heat for a long time so hopefully that's all it is.

It called "thermal inertia" and one reason why brick and concrete are used to store and maintain more even temperaturea that lighter materials.

My neighbor just had his inspected so he sort of had a legup on what to look for. I know this is a non-professional opinion from my neighbor but there was no broken brick or missing mortar that we could see or mortar dust or signs of water damage in the smoke rack. Maybe next year the finances will be better.
