I've been thinking of finishing my basement but have a few questions first to make sure I do things right. Here's the first of a series of questions:
The location where I wanna run one of the walls at has a large support Joist followed by the central air duct about a foot away. In the general layout of this bedroom that I wanna make, that location would be perfect for a closet. However, I want to know if the building code allows a closet that's about 7' or a little less in height inside. I'm in Mendota Heights, MN. If you know the rules for something like that or can point me in the targeted dircection, I would really appreciate it.
Normally that would be ok for a non-walk-in closet but you'll get the best answer by calling your local building department. You'll need to talk to them about electrical and egress window requirements and permits and such anyway.
