Fiberglass friend or foe

Today we had some builders working on our balcony which has leaked in the past. We decided to have a fiberglass base put in.

My question is that underneath the balcony I can still see the light through a gap that has not been filled with wood. It has however been covered with the fiberglass. Is this enough to stop any leaks? If it is not supported by the wood?!

I bought this up with the builders at the time and they said it should be fine. However we are having decorators in to cover underneath the balcony with a new ceiling. If water gets through the gap all the work will be ruined. I am very worried and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Jenny

I doubt you will have a problem with an area that small
When roofing there are usually holes/ small gaps on older homes that are larger then that

Hi Jenny
Hey Fiberglass is a great sealer if it dosn't get broken or cracked. Think of Boats ,Corvette's or your bathtub/shower. But if your deck moves whether by frost heaves, ( how high up are you?) or by Earthquakes, etc. it may leak. other wise it should be a great barrier for you.
