Fence to Vinyl Siding?? Please help!

Hey everyone,
I am getting a fence installed soon. The problem is that the only place to attach the fence to our house is either the concrete (which we have a basement) and our vinyl siding.

I heard its bad to drill through either of those. Any help or tips? There is no where else we could attach this fence because then there will be a 3 foot gap going into our neighbors since we are attached townhouse.

Thanks in advance!
Anthony

Pictures please!

Your right it's almost never a good idea to attach anything to the side of the house.
When I have to do it I remove the siding and add a vinyl siding block with a piece of 3/4 plywood or advantec inside of it, then reinstall the siding around the siding block. That way there's no leaks and the siding can still move.

or... to the STRUCTURE of the house BEHIND the siding.

I once had a fence that attached to a piece of angle iron...
and the angle iron was bolted to the brick wall. It worked well.

This sort of transition is the direction you should explore.

Off the top of my head... I'm seeing some heavyish lag bolts run through trim sleeves (eg a 1" nipple of PVC pipe) which in turn attach to fence hardware or an angle like I used to have.

Once I get home I'll snap a picture. It's a brand new townhouse so I am hesitant to take off the siding (or drill through it for that matter). I'll post a picture soon. Thanks again

Okay attached is the picture but don't mind the white vent (it won't be in the way). Let me know your thoughts. I keep hearing how bad it is to drill into the brand-new vinyl siding, but yet other people say don't drill into that concrete slab at the bottom of the stairs because it might jeopardize the foundation. Your thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

It would go to the left of the concrete and stairs. It's just grass, no hedge (bad picture angle I guess)

Removing enough siding to to do this is about a 5 min. job and will do no damage to the siding, It's done all the time using a tool called a zipper.
If you use Tap Cons and angle brackets it could be just attached to the walk way.

Which potential risks might happen though if I go through that cement slab instead of the siding? Its a new townhouse so I just don't want to mess it up long term. Is going through the concrete safer you think or is siding safer?

It's going to do no harm either way if it's done right.

I think I figured out a safe solution but please give your input.. Would installing an aluminum FLANGE to the concrete be the safest to not jeopardize the foundation and the siding?

Thanks in advance..

If I understand correctly that would work.

Please, Joe has given you the answer several times, either will work and neither is bad.

Now if you are attaching a fence, do you not have a post to attach? If you do, you should attach it to the vinyl portion and to the cement portion.
