Fence nailing options
I'm helping a friend finish a fence that he has started. He already has the post put in and the stretchers up, now we need to put up all the pickets. He put the 2 x 4 strecher flat against the 4X4 postand the pickets are 5/8 thick pressure treated. The shortest hot dipped nails I can find are 2" so with the picket and the stretcher that only leaves 1/8" of clearance and room to sink the head.

Has anyone ever seen Framing nails shorter than 2" I don't want to switch to my finishing nails since I've never seen hot dipped finishing nails.
Anyone have any ideas?

I just finished one with a family member - we used deck screws.

I can get hot-dipped galv. nails down to 1", here, keep looking for a real hardware store.

I can get nails that short too, but with 120 ft of fence to do I really would rather use the nail gun. So I guess it's either deal with the nails being close to breaking through or pound the nails.

I just did the same thing using 2" nails w/ a gun. If you turn the pressure up too much it will come through the other side. If I recall, 75 psi. was perfect for not coming through.
