Faux Wood Beams

I'd like to know if anyone has faux wood beams in their house and how they like them. How realistic are they really? Am building a new house with old world look and hate the expense of real wood timbers. Am trying to decide between distressing wood for box beams vs getting faux wood beams...either faux wood beams.com or eco beams. Any advice/comments appreciated.

Faux Wood Beams

Personally, I would not use a faux wood beam. I've never installed one so I’m not doubting their quality, just the use of faux anything! It seems such a shame to use a fake material, real wood must be much nicer? Maybe someone has experience of these, do they look realistic? I suppose if it was the only option, better than nothing.

Faux Wood Beams

So far all the J-names are on this subject. While faux materials are not for everyone it's actually a very sustainable and responsible choice for green building.
Not to mention yes, cost effective.

As far as the look goes: low or high ceilings, a quality faux beam will look great and near indistinguishable as an accent, they are easy to install if you are going the DIY route.
