Fanfold under PVC Trim

I'm currently removing the really cheap vinyl that covers our house so it can be replaced with hardie lap siding. I want to reuse the existing 1x4 (3/4 x 3-1/2 actual) azec trim, but don't like the way the windows (jeld wen aluminum clad) project out 1/2" from the face of the trim. Would it be appropriate to use 1/4" fanfold to build-out the trim? I've built out vinyl corners that way but never tried it under trimwork.

Thanks,

-Sam

Fanfold under PVC Trim

Well, I get the feeling that using fanfold to build out the trim is not such a good idea; any suggestions from the more experienced? Primed 1/4" CDX maybe or should I forget about trying to salvage the existing trim?

Thanks,
Sam

I would not advise it. You should use something solid if you're building the trim out.

I definately see your point. After giving it more thought, I think I'll rip some pvc utility trim and glue it to the backside of the existing trim. If I'm still toddling down the wrong path, please reach through my monitor and give me a whack.

Thanks!
Sam

You're on the right track now. Just make sure that you properly weatherseal everything and I'd also use felt building paper behind the trim.
