Exterior siding

I currently have vertical masonite siding and have been playing with the thought of going to a cement fiber. I have been looking at the Jame Hardie but also found a Certainteed cement fiber. I live in the Midwest so I am not sure which product would be the best. Does anyone have any experience with these products that might be able to help me determine which would be the best.

I've used Hardiplank quite a bit and it works well. The less expensive version of Hardiplank is totally flat, meaning that it doesn't have a lip to rest on the lower plank. If you use this product, make a several t-jigs to help you with alignment. The horizontal section of the jig will butt up against the bottom of the lower piece with vertical piece holding the new plank in place. Installing these planks is at least a two person and preferably a three person job.

Just me, but I'd wrap the building with tyvek before installing the new board.

6 of one, half dozen of another. They are pretty much very similar.

We have always stuck to using the James Hardie product. Either one that you use, make sure that you follow the installation instructions to the letter on the manufacture's site.

Example:

James Hardie:
