Exterior chimney chase
Has anyone got any tips on building an exterior chimney chase around an 8" double insulated chimney off of a wood stove. My problem is we just had a hailstorm and it kicked the crap out of my stainless pipe, but instead of replacing it and waiting for another hailstorm I would just as soon build a box around it and cover it in. Has anyone done this so you can give me a few hints.

Exterior chimney chase
The pipe should extend 2' above anything within 10' to to bottom of the vent and be minimum 3' high including the vent to the roof surface. Fire-stop at attic and roof deck. Keep minimum clearance from pipe to combustibles. Frame the chase so the bottom of the vent is ? above the chase height, As per manufacturer. Frame the walls on the roof, assemble 2 together, then stand each set and nail off corners of last two joints. Install tin or aluminum chimney cap and flashing, caulk all nail-heads and paint. (Hint) Using ply or sheathing/Hardie, leave bottom of 2' off a side and the back, to nail plates to roof sheathing/rafters, and flash comp. before installing bottom access pieces. Hold wood above roof 2' and install step flash first with straight flash in chase wall.
