Exterier chimney chase

I'm boxing around an existing cinder block chimney. My question is, how close can my framing be to the cinder block? 4", 8", or can it be tight to it?

If under IRC:

always ask your AHJ

Clothes taking longer to dry?
Clean the dryer screen in HOT water if using fabric softener sheets.
They leave a residue that impedes air-flow, costing you money.
Clean the ducting in the last six months? 17,000 dryer fires annually!
