Excavation
Hi all, my girlfriend and I have recently baught a small house with a cellar. To make the cellar legally "habitable" we need to excavate roughly 1/2 meter down through stone flooring, underneath which is rock. Any information about how we should go about this would be helpful, even if it is just "get a contractor in".
Cheers, Will |

I watched some guys lowering the basement floor in a 19th century urban building recently. It was a bucket brigade of dirt and rubble through a street level access way. No conveyors, just lots of young, strong bodies.

I'd find a good demo guy, someone familiar with shaped/packed charges, he could save you a lot of money. Keyword here is GOOD.

Have you given any thought to raising your house and making the walls taller?
|
no ive not, can you tell me any more about it?
|
wo wo wo.....about lifting the house. hehehe. Cellar or Basement ? big difference here .... Give me the square footage ... and then I can give you some advice. Is there a way to get the material out/in? Does the foundation extend below the amount you want to take out ?
Maybe it is small ...but can create huge problems if not thought out in advance. let me know your thoughts . Don As far as the guy in the picture ......I think he's outta business.. |
Tell me the dif. between basement and cellar.
