Excavating under attached garage.

I'm designing my 3rd house and would like to excavate under the garage. I'm talking about a 2 car garage. 20 x 22. Does anyone have any idea what is involved in this? First off, I saw this in a magazine on Model Railroading and the railroad was built under the person garage. The misses and me were looking at new homes last wkend and one of them had excavated under the garage. Nobody on hand to talk with about this. Right now looking for information. Any help would be appreciate. I know the usuall answer is WHY?. Why not. the cost shouldn't be that much and it sure would increase the value of the home.

Its just engineering... And lots of it. Steel beams and posts. Then they deck it and pour 3-4" slab on top of it.

Hire an engineer to come up with the specific specs to do what you want to do. You will need his stamp to get the permit anyways. But if your just in the planning stages and wondering about it... It can be done.
