Ever heard of a Melamine beam?

Ever heard of a melamine beam? If they exist, are they strong and where can I find span charts?

Melamine is a thin plastic, usually over particle board. It has the structural strength of spaghetti, so i doubt you could make a beam from it.

Perhaps you could tell us what you have in mind????

Have you ever heard of a melamine beam?
Chinese and plastic, quite the team
They put it in dogfood, what a scream
But too weak for structural, I would deem

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they use melamine resins in adhesives for osb sometimes.

OP, can you be more specific as to what you mean by melamine beam?

I realized in my eagerness to be helpful and decipher the OP's meaning I made a ridiculous connection.

Referring to a beam by an ingredient in the glue that holds the web together is on par with calling a car a weld wagon.

Ok, sorry for posting that ridiculous topic. The contractor I was speaking with said Microlam and not melamine. No wonder I was confused. Melamine is what the Chinese were putting in dog food a few years ago. It is also a glue used in some construction applications.

So, what about microlamb. Any issues with using a microlam beam over a span of 18 feet?

Ah, that makes more sense! Microllam is a brand of lvl (laminated veneer lumber). There are different sizes so I can't flat out tell you that a beam of that will span 18' but there are lvl beams that can span 18'.
