Etching concrete to remove smooth finish?

The steps in the front of my house have a smooth finish on them and become very slippery in the winter or when wet.

I would like to use this product called Mason's select, that etches the concrete.
Has anyone ever done this before? And does it work?

I don't want to paint them with any product, as that will not look really good.

Thanks

at the apron store & etch w/that,,, probably less expensive, too,,, dilute 1:4 w/wtr & neutralize w/ammonia/wtr 1:8,,, OR you could try an acid-reactive stain (NOT latex or acrylic stain)

I heard that this product is toxic and smells bad. I really didn't want to use that.

when you combine the lime from the cement in the concrete & neutralized ammonia/muriatic, its good fertilizer for the grass,,, no more toxic than any other lawn stuff,,, ammonia's only objectionable if you're in a closed room or wearing mothball'd clothing :-) life's full of bad smells - ever go to the gym ?

we do this work every day.
