entry door with sidelights


do you HAVE to replace door AND sidelights in an entry door? I ike the sidelights we have but need a new door..\

Nope.
The door jamb and sidelights are typically nailed/stapled together.
If the jamb is good, you can purchase the door slab separately.
It will be quite a chore to change out the door jamb though.

to add: generally, the weathstripping in new doors is far superior to an older door frame. And the glass is more energy efficient. Yes, you can change just the door(and considerably less expensive), but it might be better to replace it all as a unit.

You can still just get a door and fit it to the jamb. If you go to a door supplier there are a lot of options for what you could get. There are also plenty of weather striping options that can be installed in place.

It used to be that every door was fit on site. Believe it or not it can still be done today.

Just realize that if you want a fiberglass or steel door, the size adjustments on site are practically non existant. These doors should be prehung and set in their entirety.
