EIFS Wall System

Is it feasible to install exterior insulation board directly to a sheet
metal substrate and utilizing a drainage system. Are there any other instances of this application?
Thanks, David

What do you mean by sheet metal substrate? Are you asking if the sheet metal (siding?) can serve as a drainage plane behind the EIFS?

Perhaps I should provide more information. I would like to cover an existing curtain wall system and I do not think that the existing curtain wall system
would support the normal 1/2" cement board sheathing. My thought was to eliminate the sheathing and install ?guage sheet metal mechanically fastened to
horizontal 7/8" hat channels @ 24" o.c. vertically. Install vapor barrier(drainage plane), insulation board with reinforcing mesh and finish coat. My original
question is could I subsitute the 1/2" sheathing with non corrigated sheet metal mechanically fastened.

Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems are not a DIY'er product. They require a certified installer, and even then are iffy at best.

I seriously doubt you'd get an EIFS manufacturer to warranty that application. You need to contact a representative of the company whose product you intend to use (dryvit, etc) to get their reccomendations.
