drywalll only mounted to every other stud

I had some drywallers come in and do a room in my house and they only put screws into every other stud. It has already been mudded and is ready to paint. Now if you put your hand on the wall and press in there is quite a bit of slack in it. I'm worried that the joints are going to pop loose over time, but on the other hand I'm worried that if I run screws in where they left them out it's going to press in on the drywall and put pressure on the ends and cause those mud joints to come loose. Has anyone ever dealt with this before? What should I do? If I can get away with leaving it I'd rather do that but I don't want to have it come loose after I've got it all painted either.

Are the studs 16" on centre? Are the sheets 4x8? Are they attached horizontally or vertically?

Is it possible that some of the studs are bowed inward, and they didn't put screws in because it would have warped the sheets?

studs are on 16" centers. I went ahead and ran screws in because I don't want to have to come back after it's painted.

You did the right thing by screwing to every stud. Sounds like your drywallers cut corners.
