drywall question

I'm drywalling in my basement, and have a question about drywalling around a chase. The wall in question is about 20 feet across or so, and the chase almost bisects the wall in the middle. But, it only sticks out about 1/8 or 1/4 inch or so. Whats the best way to dry wall over this?

I really don't want to frame a box around it. Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Options:

1.) If you are dead set on not having a minor 'bump out there, you could furr out all the rest of the walls (if all ready framed) to meet that chase area in it's wall depth.

2.) Use 5/8" sheetrock only along the wall areas that the chase is on to bring out the depths. On the chase, you could use 1/4" to 3/8" sheetrock to try and make it flush with the rest of the walls along that area.

3.) You could simply go comptely over that area and leave the 1/4" - 1/8" difference there. You would have a slight 'hump' in the wall that would be barely noticable at the floor and ceiling line.

4.) If the other walls are not framed yet; you could just bring out the other walls 1/8" to match the depth of the chase wall and then end up with a completely 'even' wall depth....

It sounds like #2 might possibly be your best option - based on the specifics of your actual question....
