Drywall beads/trims

Greetings all,

I'm hoping for some drywall help. I am creating a step-down racetrack like ceiling. I somehow need to finish the exposed edge of the drywall. Should I use L-bead/trim or J-bead/trim. With either of these trims do you have to finish the short leg or the edge covering the 1/2" width of the drywall with mud or are they paint ready?

Would I also need to caulk the seam between the ceiling and the edge of the bead/trim?

Thanks for any and all help!

For what you want to accomplish.... use L-bead

Neither trim's edge has to be finished. They are paint ready. However, realize that there are different width L and J bead for different thickness sheetrock. Make sure that you get the 1/2" if you are using 1/2" sheetrock.

That is up to you, dependant on the 'look' you are going for.
