Drilled wrong spot in my door

Ok so I had to install a door lock and knob and everything new. So I drilled except i drilled too close to the left and the latch does not go in all the way. So what is the best way to do this, can I fill it in with wood putty let it dry and then re-drill more to the right in the correct spot? How about bondo? Then I would have to drill through the bondo or wood putty for the latch and I'm not sure that's possible?


Any help would be much appreciated!

Did you use a hole saw? If so, find the piece you drilled out and epoxy it back in. Then, cut the new hole.

There's not much you can do beyond that, outside of buying a new door. It sounds like you are painting the door (Hopefully).
You should do as Scorpio wrote. Use wood glue to re-install your cut out round (again, assuming you used a 'hole-saw').
If the 'round' is non-usable', cut out a new one from scrap wood and install.

As was cited already, you can use wood-epoxy or bondo. skim Coat the repaired area, let dry, & sand...then repeat, until it looks right. Then - recut your hole at the right location. (Yes, you can drill through the wood epoxy/bondo)

does your door have a texture to it or a smooth surface?

if there is a texture (wood grain) to the door you are looking at a new door as you will not be able to match the texture.
