Draftstop gas fireplace

Wondering if anyone has any great tips for draftstopping around a gas fireplace insert?

The unit in question is installed in a basement, inside an old wood burning fireplace and is gas fired-direct vented outside.

The firebox itself seems fine with all draft coming from around the unit itself. It's been finished out in molding and I'd like to avoid ripping that all apart if I can.

Can I use backer rod/foam/caulking around the unit or do I try to seal up the flue chamber somehow to prevent air getting in behind???
