Question

Do you think this will work?

I am in need of some feedback. I am having a party at a home I recently purchased and I would like to have an area to sit outside. The home that I purchased doesnt have a patio yet and we are planning to have one built shortly. So I am looking for very inexpensive solutions and wanted to know:

If I use 1/2 inch concrete backerboard to make a temporary patio - do you think that would work? The groud is fairly level and I would be simply laying it there for a foundation to entertain on. Do you think it is too thin and would crack? Your help is very appreciated - I also welcome anyone else who may have a very inexpensive idea!

Thanks!

It is too thin and will crack from foot traffic. concrete has a high compressive strength, but does not flex enough for your suggestion.

You just moved in, so your friends all know there's work that needs to be done.

What's wrong with the lawn?

I would just let them walk on the ground but if you need a floor, 1/2" OSB screwed to 1x4's laid flat, so the sheet edges don't lift.

I'm thinking Patio Party! Have everyone bring shovels, wheelbarrows and rubber boots. You supply the screed board, float and trowels. Make sure the concrete truck doesn't arrive before the guests. Have plenty of cold drinks and brats on the grill.
