Do I need a New Construction or Replacement Window?
I believe this would normally be an easy question to answer. However, I am replacing a set of "Fake" french doors (double doors, one fixed, one opens) with a window.
We have vinyl siding on the exterior, and I'll have to build the bottom of the frame to make the wall where the bottom of the door used to be. This is a set of doors on the second floor going onto an attached deck (we already have two and don't need 4 doors on a 30 foot deck!). So I'm going to remove the doors & door jambs, and work with that rough opening size (width only, obviously). Other than getting a more exact size, is there any reason to pick one over the other? Is one more likely to come with an integrated J-Channel for the vinyl siding, and would I need a sill - or is that personal choice? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are in a hurry, since the deck wasn't flashed (I'm flashing it as I re-hang the existing doors and replace the rotted wood & threasholds) and there is water intrusion into the basement. Any more and the large beams down there will get damaged. Thanks anyone! |
