Do I need a footing for 3' X 10" bump out in the southwest.?

I would like to build a 3 X 10 foot bump out. I have concrete slab and will attach to for the bump out. Do I need to add a footing?

If you don't it's likely that the roof/wall weight will crack the slab and/or the slap perimeter will sink and if the ground freezes in your area the heaving could cause problems.

if your soil's capable of supporting the weight, no,,, you can dig a trench & fill it w/crushed ston,,, many old adobe structures are blt the same way - on adobe

Call your building inspector and ask him/her.

While you are there (B.D.), ask them what size replacement beam you need to remove the studs in your way.....
and posts, footings, shear panels to make the wall structurally sound again, shear continuity strapping connections, plastic required under the now heated slab area, foundation to old foundation re-bar needed, etc.

correct answer, although I don't know why you couldn't just dig some holes every 6' and pour concrete supports.
