Divided wall doesnt fit steel stud spacing ?
 
Hello this is a great forum. I have been searching for how to frame steel stud interior partitions when I have walls that do not divide into whole stud spacing. In wood framing they just leave the last bay the last remaining inches of the wall as long as it is less than 16 or 24 on center when the stud spacing doesn't divide completely. Is it the same with steel studs in new construction homes?

yes, they are framed the same

Steel studs can be put anywhere in the track. So really it is the exact same as wood framing.

Wall Intersection?

From corner wall to steel framing wall intersections. The assistance was really helpful previously ,but for bays near the wall intersections also doesn't fit the spacing.Is left over because it is position in between the common studs which are 16 o.c. Is that normal to have for example a bay of 2" to 8" around the intersections when the space doesn't fit the 16 o.c.?

Doesn't matter. You space your studs at their centers and add mailers at the perpendicular walls. Same as wood framing.

Thanks Joe . So to make sure I understand correctly all walls involved with wall intersections are 16 oc but their will be bays "spaces" leftover that do not conform to the normal spaces but can range from 2" and up but not over the mandated 16" .

wall intersections require some type of " T stud assembly" to allow connection of wall to wall, and the connection of drywall on either side of wall intersection. I frame a wall with 16 centers and add the T wherever there is a wall intersection, if the T ends up a few inches away from a 16" center then it doesn't really matter. It is usually easiest to pull 16" layout from the direction you plan to start the drywall...

I'm glad to help! One thing that helps with framing and maybe saving a stud or 2 is.. you can frame up to 24" centers with most walls ( not including ceilings) so fitting studs into the wall at in-Persis increments is ok to do for particular situations...

yes, in my opinion 24 " centers are more for 2x6 framed walls or walls where wall stability is not as much of an issue like basement walls or fireblock/fireproof walls etc... but in general 16" framing is best to do. randomly spaced studs throughout the 16" framed walls are ok and can be spaced up to 24" but 18" is a comfortable allowance for the average odd spaced studs.

I would not use 24" center with steel studs,because the studs you buy at the home centers are 25 guage which is just a little thicker than a beer can.If you were to go to a supply house and get 20 guage or thicker i would say yes.
