Digging deck footings in wet ground...

Ok...soooo...I've been talking about digging a deck for several years...and it just hasn't worked out. One of the problems has always been trying to find "detailed" plans - that is plans that are detailed enough for a rookie to feel confident in tackling. But...I'm also facing the problem of weather. The weekend weather just doesn't cooperate - and this year is no different. We seem to be getting saturated with rain. My question is - do I have to wait until the ground is dry to dig and pour footings? This is not a high deck - no more than 2 ft off the ground and I will be using the form tubes. I have no doubt that if I dig a 36" hole tomorrow - 24 of those inches will have water, very likely. But with no guarantee of a dry spell - I'd really like to get moving on this project. What are my options?
Thanks

Deeper hole. Utility pump. Fill the hole with the water with dry concrete mix. Fill the rest with the hole in the traditional manner.

Ok - Thanks. How long should I let the concrete set before continuing the project?

I'd wait a week before putting any weight on it. After that, build away.
