different level floors


we are currently doing an extension onto an old cottage.the sitting room and hallway will both open onto the kitchen but the new kitchen floor is about a foot and a half higher than these.ive been trying to look up options as to how these areas can meet,steps or alternatives and am having very little success.would appreciate some advice or direction.i dont even know what to call what im looking for

There's no reason you couldn't put 2 steps! If it is a foot and a half (18 in.) you will need 2 6 inch stairs!

precisely, for such a small total rise you dont need to cut stringers, in such situations i just make boxes that act as platforms and piggy back them
