Welcome to the forum!
If the 2x12 is part of a built-up beam, compare it to this: http://www.awc.org/Publications/DCA/DCA6/DCA6-09.pdf It has your notches, fasteners, spans, hardware, etc. for a safe deck. If different than listed, describe what you are doing in more detail and pictures always help: http://www.diychatroom.com/f98/how-a...to-post-20532/ Gary |
Always sandwich the 2x12''s, This compression is what gives them added stability. You can either notch the 6x6 at the top and then carriage bolt the 2x12s in through the side, Or you can go with 3 2x12''s right ontop of the colum, and use a bracket specificly designed for it.
